Technology in the Classroom
Technology has been changing drastically over the years. How has your teaching changed with the use of technology in the classroom?
I am using it to keep the students engaged and interested. It's fun to use the whiteboard and try new things with it. I hope to be able to do even more soon!
How do you use the whiteboard in your classroom? I had an interactive board in my room which is very similar to a SMART board, but did not know how to implement it into my teaching. Any suggestions?
Hi Erin! My teaching is CONSTANTLY changing because of technology...in fact, I'm laughing right now thinking of the equipment I had that was upscale 19 years ago and is now archaic! You can read my first post on my blog to get an idea. :-) I haven't yet, but I'll be creating class blogs for each of my 7th - 9th grade math classes this year. I have a mounted projector that I use to project from my own computer everything from online lessons, games, and video, to my own PowerPoint lessons.
This was my first year with a SmartBoard mounted in my room and I absolutely love it! I use it for anything that I used to do on the overhead, whiteboard, and AverKey. I try to use it for interactive lessons mostly because that's what really motivates and engages my students in their learning.
I have used power point to present a lot of my lessons. I have also included a lot of video clips related to the topic being taught. Actually I found a lot more visuals for biology than I did for math. However I am always open to new ideas and activities to use in my math classes as I will not be teaching biology this fall.
As I learn more about the importance of using technology in the classroom, I can see that I need to do more to bring my classroom up to speed with today's technology. I have a Smartboard in my room and the students love anything that involves interacting with it, especially games. Next year, we are getting "voting clickers" so that each student can respond anonymously to questions throughout the lesson. Based on their responses, I will know how to adjust my instruction.
The clickers are a great way to get immediate feedback from your students and they LOVE to use them. Do any of you have links to the products that you are using in your classroom? I am really interested in purchasing a Smart Board and if the funds pop up (*fingers crossed*) I would like to get one!
Hello and welcome to my blog! I am a 7th grade math teacher and a student working towards my masters in technology. This is my very first educational blog so please help me make it successful!
